January 24, 2026
Bangladesh is strategically enhancing its position as a healthcare destination with the approval of the 1,000-bed China-Bangladesh Friendship General Hospital in Nilphamari Sadar upazila. This Tk 2,459.34 crore project, largely financed by China, received Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) sanction and is set for completion by December 2029.
Catalyzing Cross-Border Healthcare
Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud views the Nilphamari hospital, a strategic decentralization move, as a future regional hub for advanced treatment, leveraging its proximity to Syedpur Airport to attract international patients.
Elevating Quality of Care
The facility will offer specialized services (nephrology, cardiology, oncology, neurology), featuring advanced diagnostics, OTs, and ICU/CCU/HDU units. Incorporating digital health systems, it aims to provide high quality of care, reduce strain on Dhaka and Rangpur hospitals, and firmly establish Bangladesh as a key medical tourism destination.
