North Macedonia Tourism: International Influx Drives Growth, Highlights Stay Duration Challenge
January 10, 2026
North Macedonia's tourism sector is experiencing accelerated growth, largely propelled by international visitors, according to the State Statistical Office.
Key Statistics and Strategic Focus
In October 2025, 109,535 tourists and 204,718 overnight stays were recorded, with foreign visitors comprising 78.2% of tourists and 70.9% of stays. The January-October 2025 period saw total tourist numbers rise 5.4% (foreign +9.3%, domestic -2.3%). However, total overnight stays increased by only 0.6%. This indicates a need for policies to convert arrivals into longer, more valuable stays. Opportunities exist in developing qualitative upgrades, including specialized health tourism, enhancing quality of care for international patients, or promoting wellness tourism. This challenge is also observed in the Greek tourism sector.
